Police are searching for suspects in the deadly shooting of a 27-year-old man at a bar in north Wichita

Officers were called at around 2 a.m. Sunday to a shooting at Deuces Bar at 3105 of North Arkansas. They arrived to find the victim had suffered multiple gunshot wounds.

Lt. Todd Ojile said the victim, identified as Dwayne Brunson of Great Bend, died at a local hospital later that morning.

He said Brunson was with two other people in the bar when there was an altercation and someone shot Brunson multiple times. No arrests have been made.

Lt. Ojile said efforts to track down people who were at the bar have been unsuccessful.

"We're getting very limited cooperation with the individuals we have talked to, so we really don't have a lot of information," Ojile said.

Anyone with information is asked to call WPD detectives at (316) 268-4407 or Crime Stoppers at (316) 267-2111.

Fort Hays State University's website says Brunson was originally from Queens, New York, and played basketball at the university his junior and senior years.

"Very sad and tragic. The Fort Hays State basketball program, athletic department community want to send out their condolences and thoughts and prayers to Dwayne's family and friends," said Mark Johnson, Head Men's Basketball Coach at Fort Hays State University.

Brunson's girlfriend said he is leaving behind two boys, ages 3 and 7.

"He was loving. he was a really really good father. a really good dad," said Mallory Stein. "He was funny. Everyone knew him as a big goofball."

An online fund has been set up to help his family with funeral expenses. Donations can also be made to the Dwayne Brunson Memorial Fund at Farmers Bank & Trust in Great Bend.

Sunday's shooting was Wichita's 9th homicide of 2018.
