How to get around Wichita during the NCAA tournament

Posted: Updated:

Basketball fans are about to pour into Wichita and they'll be needing rides. Plenty of Uber and Lyft drivers are ready to accommodate visitors.

"More than likely prices will be higher than normal because of the increase in people." Uber driver, Matt McCandless said.

Some drivers picked up this side job specifically for NCAA tournament weekend. Gregg Jossie cleared his full-time work schedule to drive fans around.

"Thursday, I'm going to get off work early and just work the entire afternoon and evening," Jossie said.

Uber and Lyft drop offs and pickups at INTRUST Bank Arena will take place on Emporia near east Waterman.

If you're wanting to take a free ride, the Q Line Trolley will offer its Douglass and Old Town routes at no charge. Free shuttle buses will do pick-up and drop-off services on Thursday and Saturday. More information can be found at https://downtownwichita.org/get-around/ncaa-parking-info.

Uber drivers say however fans choose to get around, they're confident it won't be stressful. They're also excited to show off and share their pride for Wichita.

"I think people that do come are going to be pleasantly surprised," McCandless said.

Uber reminds drivers:

  • Don’t forget to double check the car’s model and license plate in the app before you hop in your ride, and confirm it’s your driver by asking for their name and looking at their picture.

  • Running late for the game? Let your friends know by sharing your location in real-time so they know when to expect you. Once you’re on a trip, just tap “Share Status” to send them a map of your route and expected time of arrival.
