WICHITA, Kan. (KAKE) -

Authorities say a Wichita Police Department recruit has been arrested for domestic violence and is no longer employed with the department.

The department said that at around 11:30 a.m. Sunday, Wichita officers were contacted by a 21-year-old woman at the Patrol West substation. She told police she was battered and her property was damaged by her 21-year-old boyfriend, a WPD recruit.

The recruit, whose name was not released, was booked into the Sedgwick County Jail for domestic violence battery and criminal damage to property. Police said he began his employment in January and has been attending the police academy.

The Sedgwick County Sheriff’s Office is investigating.
