An 11-year-old boy suffered critical injuries when he jumped from a flatbed truck.  The accident happened Saturday near Sterling in northwest Reno County.

Sheriff Randy Henderson said the boy was on the bed of a truck that was driving slowly through a farm field.  The boy's cowboy hat blew off.   He jumped off the truck to retrieve the hat.   The boy landed on his feet but fell backwards and hit his head.
