Bars, fans prepare for NCAA Tournament in Wichita

It's the best time of the year for basketball fans and downtown sports bars.

Wichita will play host to the NCAA tournament next week, and thousands of visitors are expected.

But Friday night's conference tournaments are giving us a taste of what's to come.

Sarah Hoffman and Abby Donart sipped a couple of pints at Heroes Sports Bar & Grill Friday night, while cheering on their favorite team.

"Every team in Kansas is playing," said Sarah Hoffman.
"It's a big night," agreed Abby Donart.

The two took in the view from one of Heroes' 32 televisions. You can bet next week, all of those t.v.'s will be tuned to the game happening just blocks away at Intrust Bank Arena.

"We will be packed, I mean it... We're ready, we're trying to add some more tables," said Adam Alkasay, one of the owners of Heroes.

The owners are putting the final touches on their bar, to make it tournament-fan-ready.

But for Alkasay, it's about more than showing off their bar.

"We're going to make sure we're going to be ready. This is going to reflect to Wichita," said Alkasay.

Down the street at Pumphouse, there was another big crowd, a trial run for next week.

"This is a little bit of a precursor of what we're expecting next week. It's going to be insane. All the prep we could possibly do is done, now we're just waiting for it to start. It's like waiting for the other shoe to drop," said Matt Jones, Assistant General Manager at Pumphouse.
