A 23-year-old Kansas man has pleaded guilty to murder and child abuse in the death of his 6-month-old son.

Kansas Attorney General Derek Schmidt said Benny Clark, of Reece, entered the plea on one count each of second-degree murder and child abuse in connection to the death of Cooper Clark. Deputies were called on August 22 of last year to to the Greenwood County Hospital for a report of possible child abuse.

The sheriff's office says the infant had sustained injuries that were not consistent with the parents' initial story. Cooper died two days later at a Wichita hospital.

Clark is scheduled to be sentenced on July 5.

The case was investigated by the Greenwood County Sheriff’s Office with assistance from the Wichita Police Department’s Exploited and Missing Child Unit.

Reece, Kansas is about 50 miles east of Wichita.
