Wichita car dealer finds 27 bags of meth, heroin in vehicle

Posted: Updated:

A Wichita car dealer was in for quite a surprise when the vehicle he recently bought from an auction came with more than he bargained for.

Aymen Halak has purchased vehicles from an Oklahoma City auction before, but never has he had to call the police over one of his new cars, until now.

"The car was fine, up until a test drive. We found out there's a problem in the fuel tank," says Halak of the Nissan Altima now sitting partially-disassembled at his dealership, Unique Motors LLC.

"I thought there wasn't enough fuel. I bought a new fuel pump, took the gas tank down to replace the fuel pump to find out it's full of drugs."

Not just any drugs: 26 pounds of crystal meth and one pound of heroin, according to what Halak says he was told by narcotics.

"They were saying it's $300,000 or $400,000 worth of street value."

It's a first for Halak, but it isn't uncommon for drug smugglers to use gas tanks to transport drugs.

In 2017, Boarder Patrol agents in California found bags of meth in the gas tank of another Nissan Altima.

As for Aymen Halak, it certainly wasn't the day he was expecting: five hours of police at his dealership and calls all day from Oklahoma officers; but Wednesday night, Halak will sleep with a clear conscience.

"I think I did the right thing," says Halak.
