KHP identifies motor assist driver killed in Park City crash

Authorities say the driver of a Kansas Highway Patrol motor assistance vehicle has died following a crash in Park City on Wednesday.

The accident happened at around 4 p.m. on Interstate 135 near 61st Street. The patrol said the motor assist driver was merging from the center median into the southbound lanes of I-135 when the vehicle was struck by a semi. 

The driver of the motor assist vehicle died at the scene. He was identified as 69-year-old Ricardo Torres of Augusta. 

"The Kansas Highway Patrol would like to express its sincere condolences to the family of the Motorist Assistance Technician killed in this collision," the patrol said in a news release.

Torres had served as a Kansas Highway Patrol motor assist technician since May of 2015.

The driver of the semi was not hurt.

The crash shut down southbound traffic and one lane of northbound traffic for several hours.

"Additionally, we are also looking for information on the crash and witnesses: The collision investigation is ongoing, and the Kansas Highway Patrol asks anyone from the public who may have information on it, or who may have witnessed anything regarding this, to please contact Lt.
