Fire in Greenwood County under control

HAMILTON, Kan. (KAKE) -

Emergency management officials in Greenwood County say a fire near the town of Hamilton is under control.

The Kansas National Guard sent six Black Hawk helicopters to assist ground crews battling the fire northwest of Hamilton. The county department of emergency management said on Facebook that the fire was under control and crews were cleaning up hotspots and conducting back burning operations.

Since Monday, fires across the state scorched more than 25,000 acres of land.

Improving weather conditions on Wednesday have left crews in 13 Kansas counties fighting blazes that were contained or almost out.
