Police: Standoff suspect broke into ex-girlfriend's Wichita home

WICHITA, Kan. (KAKE) -

Wichita police have arrested a 31-year-old man who allegedly broke into his ex-girlfriend's home, prompting a standoff that lasted six hours.

The incident happened at around midnight Saturday in the 800 block of North Chautauqua. Officer Charley Davidson said a woman and her 11-year-old son showed up at Patrol North and said her ex-boyfriend had broken into her home through a window. 

The woman said her brother and the suspect had gotten into a fight and the suspect fired one shot at them. She said her ex then battered her and she fled from the residence with her son. The woman's brother also fled the home.

Officers and a SWAT team were called to the home, where the took the suspect into custody at around 6:30 a.m.

Jail records show Colby Bowring was booked for aggravated assault, aggravated burglary, domestic battery and criminal possession of a firearm. He was held without bond Monday morning. 

Kansas Department of Corrections records show Bowring has prior convictions of criminal threat, aggravated assault, criminal discharge of a firearm at an occupied dwelling, and accident involving damage to vehicle or property.
