Police continue to ask for tips in search for Lucas Hernandez

WICHITA, Kan. (KAKE) -

Authorities, volunteers and out-of-state groups have come up empty in their search for 5-year-old Lucas Hernandez, a Wichita boy who's been missing for more than two weeks.

Wichita police have said that the boy's stepmother, 26-year-old Emily Glass, claimed she last saw Lucas when she then took a shower and fell asleep on Feb. 17.

“Whether he’s alive or not alive, he’s alone and he shouldn’t be alone. He needs to be found,” search volunteer Lisa Wood said.

Groups on Sunday marked all the areas they searched, so they wouldn’t cover the same places over and over again.

One group drove all the way from Missouri to lend a hand in the search.

“We found some handcuffs at the base of a tree, which look kind of suspicious and then we found a blanket and some brush. That they’re checking out now. We called police to have them check it out,” Co-founder of Missing and Endangered NW Missouri Teresa Wilson said.

Wilson co-founded the Missing and Endangered Northwest Missouri group. She said it’s going to take the community coming together to find Lucas.

“I just feel like the faster he’s found, the more answers we’ll be able to have. If too much time goes by we’re never gonna know what happened,” Wilson said.

Search volunteer Lisa Wood agreed.

“Without Lucas, whoever did this is not gonna be held accountable for what they did to him. It’s very important just to let him rest at peace. Let his family rest at peace,” Wood said.

Police on Saturday met with members of Texas EquuSearch, who have not located anything associated with the case, Officer Charley Davidson said.

Police say if you’re out helping with these search parties and find anything suspicious, don't touch it and call (3160 383-4661. Davidson said Monday that investigators continue to get tips.

Glass was charged last week with one count of child endangerment involving her 1-year-old daughter and remains jailed on $50,000 bond.
