WICHITA, Kan. (KAKE) -

It's now been 11 days since 5-year-old Lucas Hernandez was reported missing from his east Wichita home.

A group of volunteers on Wednesday sifted through field and thick brush at Cottonwood Park near Harry and Rock Road. They say they're not giving up the search for Lucas.

As a mother, it has touched me a lot, with having three kids of my own around Lucas' age," Dustie McElwain said. "If something were to happen to me, I would want to have people help me."

McElwain took charge of the search, scouring through rough terrain and even tearing open trash bag found in the park.

Even if it's the smallest thing it can help in a situation, anything helps."

The Wichita Police Department has searched Lucas' home, neighborhood and five parks since the boy was reported missing.

"We've used upwards of 100 personnel," he said. "We've used drones. We've used K9s."

Police say they don't have any searches planned, but they're continuing to investigate an tips.

"If the community does happen to see something that might be involved with the Lucas Hernandez case, or something out of the ordinary, we do ask that they stand by with what they located and the time that they located it," Officer Davidson said. "Don't disturb that area and then notify 911."

Jennifer Bramwell, who joined in the efforts to find Lucas, says they search has been emotional.

"I'm thinking about the mental part. If we do come across something, how would I react?" she said. "It's going to be devastating either way. Whatever you find, you have mentally prepare yourself for that."

Leaving no stone unturned, the group will be back at it again on Thursday.

"It's been very difficult, but nothing is going to stop us."
