Man robs bank near Wichita police substation

WICHITA, Kan. (KAKE) -

Officers are searching for the man who robbed a bank near Wichita State University and a police substation. 

The robbery was reported just before noon Wednesday at the Bank of America at 21st Street and Hillside. Lt. Don Phelps said the suspect entered the bank, indicated he had a firearm and handed an employee a note.

An undisclosed amount of cash was given to the suspect, who took off through the main door. 

The bank is across the street from Charles Koch Arena and just feet away from the Patrol North substation. 

"We was here in 15 seconds," Lt. Phelps said.

Phelps said the suspect was a black man about 25 to 30 years old. His wore a gray jacket and a blue stocking cap.

Officers were using K9s to search for the suspect. Anyone with information is asked to call police.
