Police have arrested a 21-year-old man in connection to a shooting in a Wichita grocery store parking lot earlier this week.

Sedgwick County jail records show Raymond Alvarez Jr was booked Tuesday evening for attempted first-degree murder, aggravated robbery, criminal possession of a firearm and a parole violation. He was held without bond.

The shooting happened early Monday in the parking lot of the Dillons at 135th Street West and Maple. Officer Charley Davidson said a 19-year-old man was shot in the head during a possible drug deal. 

The victim was hospitalized in critical condition. 

Kansas Department of Corrections records show Alvarez has spent time in prison for aggravated battery. He was paroled in September.

Police say a 19-year-old man was shot in the head during a possible drug deal in a Dillons parking lot in west Wichita.

Officers were called at around 2:45 a.m. Monday to a shooting in the parking lot of the Dillons at 135th Street West and Maple. They arrived to find the victim with a gunshot wound to the head. 

The victim was rushed to a local hospital in critical condition. 

Officer Charley Davidson said the victim and a 19-year-old woman met the suspect at the Dillons for a possible drug transaction. The woman was not hurt.
