Volunteers team up to make hats for babies with heart defects

Posted: Updated:

Haydee Haltom is just one of the many volunteers that teams up with the American Heart Association each year, to knit and crochet thousands of red, baby hats.

The hats are made to bring awareness to babies born with congenital heart defects.

Once the hats are made, they are cleaned and distributed to local hospitals.

During the month of February, hospitals make sure to have plenty on hand, each one placed on the precious, tiny head of babies.

The American Heart Association says it's important that parents who have children with heart defects, have a resource.

Haltom, who had open heart surgery says this is her way of giving back.
