Man killed in semi crash, fire on Kansas Turnpike

EMPORIA, Kan. (KAKE) -

Authorities say one person is dead after a semi crashed and caught fire on the Kansas Turnpike on Tuesday.

The crash happened at around 8:30 a.m. about eight miles southwest of Emporia. The Kansas Highway Patrol said a southbound semi left the roadway, hit an embankment and overturned.  

The driver, 58-year-old Thomas Sawyer, of Temple, Texas, died in the crash.
