Construction slowing business on Douglas

WICHITA, Kan. (KAKE) -

Some small businesses on Douglas Avenue say they are having a hard time letting customers know they're open due to construction.

Ash Luster is a manager at the Donut Whole and she says their sales at the shop have dropped about a third.

"The second that all that started it's like people can't see us behind the orange cones… Like they forget we are there," Luster said.

It's the same story for Robert McMullin, the owner of the Pizzeria next door. McMullin said in a statement his restaurant has seen a decrease in sales of roughly 30 percent since the construction began.

The Donut Whole has taken to social media to help boost foot traffic. Luster tells us they don't want folks to forget about them.

"Just remember that we're here and that there are businesses behind the orange cones."
