Authorities say a 51-year-old Kansas man died after his car crashed and caught fire Thursday morning.

The crash happened at around 3:30 a.m. on Interstate 135 near Navajo Road, which is north of McPherson. The Kansas Highway Patrol says a car driven by David Chamberlain Jr., rear-ended an RV and drove into a ditch before hitting a fence and catching fire.

Chamberlain, of Haven, died at the scene. The patrol's online crash log states he was not wearing a seat belt.

The 27-year-old Wichita man driving the RV was not hurt.

Haven Public Schools said on Facebook that Chamberlain was an assistant basketball coach at the high school.
