Shocker women's streak ends at ECU

ECU erased an 11-point fourth quarter deficit to storm back and defeat Wichita State, 77-67, Tuesday night in Minges Coliseum.

Wichita State’s (10-13, 5-4) season-high five-game win streak came to an end in the first-ever meeting between the two programs.

Rangie Bessard led all players with 22 points, her second straight 20-point outing. She also grabbed seven rebounds and dished out four assists. Sabrina Lozada-Cabbage recorded her first double-double of the season with 14 points and 10 rebounds before fouling out in the final minutes.

Keke Thompson scored nine of her 11 points in the first half, highlighted by her halfcourt three-pointer at the buzzer going into halftime.

As a team, Wichita State finished the game at 44 percent, but hit just 1-of-10 attempts from beyond the arc. ECU bumped its percentage to 46 percent thanks to a red-hot fourth quarter. The Shockers finished with 20 turnovers to go along with 20 assists. It’s the second straight game with 20 or more assists.

Lashonda Monk led the Pirates with 19 points and seven assists. Mickayla Sanders added 13, Alex Frazier and Thais Oliveira added 12 apiece and Salita Green scored 10 to round out the Pirate scoring leaders.
