Former Kansas deputy arrested for child sex crimes

LINN COUNTY, Kan. (KAKE) -

The KBI says a former eastern Kansas deputy and school resource officer has been arrested for child sex crimes.

The agency said in a news release that 45-year-old David Huggins, of La Cygne, was arrested Thursday afternoon in Decorah, Iowa. He's accused of aggravated indecent liberties with a minor and sexual exploitation of a child.

The Linn County Sheriff's Office requested the KBI's assistance in October after receiving information from the Pleasanton schools superintendent. Huggins had been a school resource officer with USD 344.

Huggins was removed from his role at the school on October 20 and terminated by the Linn County Sheriff's Office on January 3.

Huggins remains in custody in Iowa, but the KBI said extradition will be pursued.

Additional information was not provided.
