Electricity restored after downed power line problem in east Wichita

Westar Energy reports that power has been restored, as of 9:30 a.m., for people in east Wichita.

Downed power lines caused an outage around 5:15 a.m. near Harry and Greenwich. Up to 1,500 people were without power since then.

Nearly 1,500 people are without power in east Wichita due to power lines down early Monday morning.

Sedgwick County dispatchers say the downed power lines caused a grass fire at 5:15 a.m. near Harry and Greenwich. The fire is extinguished, but now Westar Energy crews are working to get power restored.

A spokesperson tells KAKE News that power could be restored by 6:45 a.m., but it may be longer, as they assess the situation. At the time of the outage, the air temperature in Wichita reached around 0 degrees outside. Westar said they are working to restore power so people are safe.
