Wichita police say a teenage boy is in critical condition after he was hit by a car on the city's east side.

It happened at around 2 p.m. Wednesday at Central and Fountain, which is between Oliver and Hillside. Sgt. Jim Pinegar with the Wichita Police Department said the boy is believed to be 15 or 16 years old.

The teen was rushed to Wesley Medical Center with critical injuries. Officers were working to identify him in order to notify his family.

Pinegar did not give details on how the accident happened, but he said the driver is cooperating with police.
