SUBLETTE, Kan. (KAKE) -

Authorities say a 13-year-old boy from Mexico has died following a rollover crash in southwest Kansas.

The crash happened at around 10:15 p.m. Tuesday on U.S. 83 in Haskell County. The Kansas Highway Patrol says a Toyota pickup was heading north about 10 miles north of Sublette when the driver attempted to pass another vehicle.

The driver lost control due to inclement weather and rolled into a ditch.

Cristian Guiterrez-Portillo, of Chihuahua, Mexico, was taken to a Garden City hospital where he later died.

The boy's father, 49-year-old Luis Guitierrez-Loera, was hospitalized in Satanta. A 17-year-old boy in the pickup was not injured.

The Patrol said no one in the truck was wearing a seat belt.
