Woman, child hurt in crash during pursuit of suspected drunk driver

WICHITA, Kan. (KAKE) -

Wichita police say a woman and an 8-year-old boy were hospitalized after a suspected drunk driver crashed into their SUV during a chase.

Officers were called at around 1:30 a.m. Friday to the report of a suspicious character at the McDonald's at 53rd Street North and Meridian. When officers arrived, saw a white Chevy Silverado leaving the McDonald's and attempted to stop the driver.

Officer Charley Davidson said the driver refused to stop and fled from police. 

"While pursuing the vehicle in the 2600 block of West 53rd Street North, the vehicle went left of center and struck a tan Chevy Suburban," Officer Davidson said.

The suspect then got out of the pickup and ran, but officers quickly took him into custody. 

The 30-year-old woman and 8-year-old boy in the Suburban were taken to a local hospital for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries. 

The 36-year-old suspect was booked for felony flee and elude, DUI, two counts of DUI aggravated battery and two counts of hit-and-run. 

No names were released.
