Kansas company lets kids talk to Santa without the mall experience

Posted: Updated:

Sitting on Santa’s lap at the mall is often part of the Christmas tradition for many families.

But for some it doesn’t always go so well…

A Lenexa business with a direct line to the North Pole has an alternative.

Can’t bring your kids to Santa? Bring Santa to your kids.

Travis Mansfield is part of the team behind Santashangout.com. It’s a way to let your kids talk to the big man himself – through Skype on your computer or mobile device.

Parents can schedule timeslots, and pass on wish lists and other information to ole Saint Nick.

Families from all over the world are signing up and getting 5 to 10 minutes of face time with Santa.

"It's a very personalized experience for them, not to mention they don't necessarily have to be sitting in Santa's lap at the mall, which is sometimes terrifying for kids,” said Mansfield.

He added that allowing kids to see Santa from the comfort of their own homes, and with family around them, allows them to open up to Santa even more. And it helps to avoid some of those cringeworthy mall scenes.

Santa asks and answers questions. And he lets kids know if they’re on the naughty or the nice list.

Those conversations cost about $15, and timeslots are filling up fast.

Mansfield says all of the proceeds to go Children’s Mercy Hospital.
