House fire in north Wichita leaves 6 without a home

Six people are without a home after a fire in north Wichita.

Fire crews were called just after 6 a.m. to a fire at a home in the 1900 block of North Arkansas. Once crews arrived, they found the home on fire and four adults and two children trapped behind the house.

Battalion Chief Jim Wilson said the six people had tried to exit the front of the house, but had been blocked by fire.  After leaving the home, they became trapped in a fenced-in backyard without a gate.

No injuries were reported.

The cause of the fire was deemed to be electrical. Fire officials say there were several extension cords plugged together.
