Mother, boyfriend held for murder of 3-year-old Evan Brewer

WICHITA, Kan. (KAKE) -

A mother and her boyfriend are being held for the alleged murder of a 3-year-old Wichita boy whose body was found encased in concrete in September. 

Sedgwick County jail records show Miranda Miller and Stephen Bodine were booked Monday morning for first-degree murder and child abuse in the death of Evan Brewer. Police discovered Brewer's remains in concrete at a home on South Vine Street on September 2.

Bodine and Miller lived at the home and were arrested days before Brewer's body was discovered. Brewer had been the subject of a custody battle for months.  

The district attorney's office will decide on formal charges this week.  

Brewer was the grandson of former Wichita mayor an current gubernatorial candidate Carl Brewer. He released the following statement on Twitter:

Brewer's death brought the number of homicides in Wichita this year to 36, Officer Charley Davidson said Monday.
