Police identify man shot, killed in southeast Wichita

Wichita police have identified a 32-year-old man who was shot and killed early Sunday morning on the city's southeast side.

The shooting happened shortly before 4:30 a.m. in the 4000 block of East Stearman Court, west of Oliver and 31st Street South. When officers arrived, they found the victim in a driveway. He had been shot multiple times and later died at a local hospital.

Lt. Todd Ojile identified the victim as Daniel Lopez-Silva and said investigators learned he had been at a home visiting friends off and on throughout the night.

"Mr. Silva had stepped out of the residence, was by a vehicle in the street when another vehicle pulled up and shots were fired from that vehicle," Lt. Ojile said.

Lopez-Silva's death was one of three weekend homicides in Wichita, bringing the total of homicides in 2017 to 36, which includes the death of 3-year-old Evan Brewer. Police on Monday announced arrests in the case.

One person is critically hurt in a shooting early Sunday morning in southeast Wichita.

Sedgwick County dispatchers say the shooting took place shortly before 4:30 a.m. in the 4000th block of east Stearman Court – west of Oliver and 31st Street South.
