Family identifies man killed in northeast Wichita shooting

WICHITA, Kan. (KAKE) -

The family of Semaj Chambers confirmed to KAKE News that he was the victim in Saturday's shooting in northeast Wichita.

The shooting happened around 2 a.m. in the 1100 block of N. Estelle - near 9th and Hillside. Wichita police say when they arrived on scene they found the 25-year-old shot in the street. He was taken to the hospital where he later died.

Lt. Todd Ojile said Chambers was at the home visiting friends when he got in a fight with another individual. 

"That individual and a second individual left the residence, and Mr. Chambers along with two other people also left the residence," Lt. Ojile said.

Chambers and the two with whom he left came back to the home.

"Mr. Chambers was standing outside when an unknown individual come [sic] up and shoot him, striking and killing him."

Investigators arrested a 17-year-old man and a 33-year-old man in connection to the shooting. Jail records identified the 33-year-old as Joshua Prevett, who was booked for first-degree murder. The teen was booked into the juvenile detention center.

Chambers' death was one of three Wichita homicides over the weekend, bring the number for 2017 to 36, which includes the death of 3-year-old Evan Brewer. Police on Monday announced arrests in the case.
