Vandals damage dozens of cars in northwest Wichita

WICHITA, Kan. (KAKE) -

Wichita Police have increased patrols in a northwest Wichita area where vandals are targeting cars at night.

Since October 1, police have received approximately 50 reports of cars being vandalized using a pellet or BB gun.

"It's causing a lot of destruction and it's expensive to have that replaced. Not to mention, we don't know where those other pellets are ending up. We don't want anybody to get hurt either," said Officer Lori Hanh.

The crimes are occurring between 8 p.m. and 3 a.m. and causing damage to cars parked on the street.

A majority of the crimes are being reported in the area between W 13th and 21st Street and between N Ridge and Tyler Road.

Officers ask neighbors to check surveillance video from the last month and report any suspicious activity.

"If they see anything, people lingering around or cars stopping in the middle of the street quickly, anything that might give you that weird feeling in your gut, just give us a call and we'll go check it out," said Hanh.

If you have any information about these crimes, call police or Crime Stoppers at (316) 267-2111.
