Police: Woman shoots ex-boyfriend in west Wichita

WICHITA, Kan. (KAKE) -

Wichita police say a woman shot her ex-boyfriend during a struggle after he allegedly broke into her home. 

Officers were called at around 9:30 p.m. Tuesday to a shooting in the 5000 block of West Newell, near Central and I-235. The 32-year-old woman told police she arrived home to find that someone had broken in.

Officer Charley Davidson said the woman grabbed a shotgun from her vehicle and went to the front door. 

"The suspect exited the residence and a physical struggle ensued," Officer Davidson said. "During the struggle, the suspect received one gunshot wound in the abdomen area."

The suspect ran from the home but was later found and arrested. He was hospitalized for treatment of a non-life-threatening injury.

Authorities continue to investigate the incident.

It happened around 9:30 p.m. Tuesday in the 5000 block of West Newell, near Central and North Clara Streets.

Emergency dispatchers said that victim was transported to a local hospital in critical condition.
