A 37-year-old man has been charged with murder in connection to a deadly shooting last week in south Wichita.

Jeremy Honeycutt was charged Monday with second-degree murder in the death of 51-year-old Michael Nelson. He is also charged with criminal possession of a firearm and remained held on $150,000 bond.

The shooting happened early November 15 near 31st Street South and Hydraulic. Investigators learned the victim had gone to a home to visit friends who were staying there. At one point, Lt. Ojile said, the victim was standing outside when a vehicle pulled up and "words were exchanged." The man was then shot and killed in the street.

Honeycutt's preliminary hearing was scheduled for December 5.

Kansas Department of Corrections records show Honeycutt has prior convictions of theft, robbery, criminal threat, criminal discharge of a firearm and criminal possession of a firearm. He was last paroled in December of 2016.

Honeycutt, a double amputee, was featured in an episode of MSNBC's "Lockup" earlier this year.
