Wins for Kansas: Quilts of Valor

Posted: Updated:

Each patriotic quilt is hand made by volunteers. The work and detail that goes into these quilts is important. That because when it's finished, they are given to veterans.

"It makes me so thankful I'm involved in such a wonderful organization to recognize our veterans and our active service members," said Lisa Conner, Quilts of Valor. "Because so many of these people have been asked to do things that a normal person would not have given any thought to, so any recognition we can do for these individuals is very important to me."

Lisa Conner is with Quilts of Valor Wichita. She says almost as rewarding as making a quilt is presenting it.

"Many of them are very humble and feel they are not deserving of a quilt of valor," she said.

For some, its the first time to be given any recognition for their service.

"I've had the opportunity to award quilts to World War Two veterans, Battle of the Bulge, a survivor of the Bataan Death March, Vietnam veterans, and Iraqi Freedom, and each one is very very memorable," Conner said.

Our Wins for Kansas partners, DeVaughn James Injury Lawyers have selected Quilts of Valor for the award for the week of November 19.
