TIFFIN, Ohio (KAKE) -

Ohio police say an 8-year-old girl died when sheets of drywall leaning against a wall fell and pinned her in her grandmother's garage while she was looking for kittens.

Authorities say the accident happened Monday morning in Tiffin. Police say it's not clear how long the second-grader was under the seven pieces of drywall before they were called.

"The sheets were being stored in the garage and they were standing on their side. The child was somehow against those and they fell over.
We did some research and we believe it was probably about 450 pounds of weight on her," Tiffin Police Detective Lt. Mark Marquis told WTVG.

A relative and some of the responding police officers tried to perform CPR before the girl was pronounced dead at a hospital.

"She was an angel. The happiest kid you could ever imagine," said Jarrett Straub.
