WICHITA, Kan. (KAKE) -

An official with the Wichita Fire Department says two adults and seven children were injured in a house fire Tuesday morning.

Crews were called at around 6:50 a.m. to a fire in the 500 block of South Sedgwick Street, near Maple and Meridian. Battalion Chief Jim Wilson said they arrived to find fire showing from the left side and rear of the home. He said crews quickly got the fire under control.

Nine people inside were able to get out before crews arrived. Two adults were hospitalized in critical condition for smoke inhalation. Seven children were also taken to the hospital in "non-critical condition," Wilson said.

All nine were treated and have been released.

The cause of the fire is under investigation and a damage estimate has yet to be determined.
