WICHITA, Kan. (KAKE) -

Police say a woman stabbed a man who was allegedly assaulting her during an argument at a south Wichita motel.

The incident happened at around 6:30 p.m. Sunday at the Frontier Motel at 1523 South Broadway. Police were called to the Save-A-Lot across the street, Officer Charley Davidson said.

The 25-year-old victim told officers that the 41-year-old suspect became upset over a cellphone, hit her in the face multiple times and choked her.

"The victim stated that she used a pocket knife to stab the suspect in the leg to get away," Officer Davidson said.

The victim was taken to a local hospital for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries.

The suspect was treated and booked for aggravated battery. Online jail records identify him as James Richey.
