Man dies after crashing into semi near Wellington

WELLINGTON, Kan. (KAKE) -

The Kansas Highway Patrol says a 25-year-old man has died after crashing into a semi  in Sumner County. 

The accident happened at around 2:40 p.m. Wednesday on U.S. 160 west of the Wellington toll plaza. The Patrol reports a Chrysler 300 crossed  the center line and struck an oncoming tractor-trailer.

The driver of the Chrysler, Adam Bennett of Winfield, died at the scene. It wasn’t immediately clear  what caused him to veer into oncoming traffic.

The 57-year-old semi driver was not seriously hurt.

The highway was closed from east of the Walmart to the Turnpike toll plaza while authorities investigated the crash.
