Former Kansas police officer charged with sexual battery

PITTSBURG, Kan. (KAKE) -

A former Pittsburg police officer is charged after he allegedly coerced a woman he had arrested into improper sexual contact in exchange for helping her in her legal case.

The Crawford County Sheriff's Office says 22-year-old Jessie Davis, of Carthage, Missouri, turned himself in on Tuesday after a warrant was issued for his arrest. Davis was charged with aggravated sexual battery and official misconduct.

The alleged crimes happened on August 26 when Davis and another officer responded to a domestic disturbance. A woman was arrested and Davis took her to jail.

"During the transport, the female arrestee told investigators that Davis asked her if she would show him her breasts and allow him to touch them," the sheriff's office said in a news release. "The arrestee indicated she lifted her shirt and was able to maneuver herself into a position that allowed Davis to reach through the patrol cars partition into the back seat where he touched her breasts. The arrestee implied that she did this out of fear and was afraid of what might happen if she declined the officer’s request."

The woman told investigators that Davis had told her he would manipulate the domestic violence report he was filing.

"He indicated to her that it would possibly help her get out of those charges associated with the incident."

Davis was fired after the incident was reported and has since been released from jail on $25,000 bond.
