WICHITA, Kan. (KAKE) -

Officers with the Wichita Police Department will conduct a sobriety checkpoint in the city this weekend.

Officer Charley Davidson did not say exactly where the checkpoint will be held, only that it will begin at 11 p.m. on Friday, September 22nd, and run until 3 a.m. the following morning. He added that officers will stop motorists to check their licenses, proof of insurance and seat belt usage.

"Motorists who are not in compliance or are suspected of driving under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs will be detained for further evaluation," Officer Davidson said. "It is anticipated the average motorist will not experience any excessive delay at the checkpoint."

Checkpoints are coordinated in partnership with the Kansas Highway Patrol, the Sedgwick County Sheriff's Office, the county emergency management service and the DUI Victim Center of Kansas.
