Bronze deer statue stolen

Posted: Updated:

Early Sunday morning at his home in northeast Wichita, Steve Button woke up to the unexpected.

"I went to walk the dog early Sunday morning and was surprised that something was missing!"

A 400 pound, bronze deer statue was stolen from his front yard.

Button says he can't imagine how they got away with the statue being so heavy and thoroughly secured.

"I have each leg welded to a stainless steel plate and each plate has 4 bolts into 6 inches of concrete!"

Neighborhood cameras caught an SUV traveling towards the home just after 3:30 a.m. Just three minutes later, the same SUV was recorded leaving at 3:39 a.m.

Button contacted the manufacturer and was told to replace the statue will cost him $7,500.

This isn't the first statue to be stolen. They have become targets for thieves who can sometimes resell the metal for around one dollar per pound.
