Mulvane hot rod business seized over back taxes

The assets of a Mulvane custom hot rod business have been seized because the owners owe more than $100,000 in back taxes.

On Tuesday, agents from the Kansas Department of Revenue, along with the Mulvane Police Department, seized the assets of Chaotic Customs at 246 Industrial Drive, which is owned by Chris and Karma Carlson. 

The KDOR said the delinquent taxes total $105,848.05.

The types of assets seized include all known bank accounts, on-site cash, business inventory and personal property belonging to the owners. The business was sealed.

All assets will be sold at public auction and the proceeds will pay for the delinquent taxes.

"KDOR’s policy and practice is to work with taxpayers in delinquent status to voluntarily enter into repayment agreements. It is only after these efforts and multiple failed collection attempts that the Department is forced to execute a tax warrant, utilizing such actions as bank levies, till taps, and ultimately asset seizure to ensure compliance with the law," the Department of Revenue said in a news release.
