WICHITA, Kan. (KAKE) -

If you don't think Wichita is a party town, consider this: more than 80 parties are planned across the city Tuesday night. Only these parties will have a purpose.

It's the annual "Wichita Neighborhood Night Out," an event to promote community togetherness and good relations with law officers.

The activity is similar to the National Night Out that many cities held a week ago. The parties are designed to bring neighbors together. City officials say City Council members, police officers and firefighters will try to get as many events as they can.

All the parties had to be registered with the city to officially be part of the event. No city money is involved, as all the parties are put on by community groups. At least one has been organized by a church.
