WICHITA, Kan. (KAKE) -

The former head coach of Wichita State women's basketball is becoming a high school assistant in Derby.

Jody Adams-Birch confirmed Sunday night on social media that she is joining the Derby High School staff:

Jodie Karsak coaches the Derby ladies' team, which finished second in class 6-A this past season. Adams-Birch served as an instructor at the Derby High basketball camp this summer.

Adams-Birch agreed to step down as WSU head coach in late January. It followed a tenure which included Missouri Valley Conference titles and NCAA tournament appearances, but also controversy about a coaching style that some considered abusive.
