Wins for Kansas: Aldersgate United Methodist Church

WICHITA, Kan. (KAKE) -

This is the time of year when many churches invite children to take part in Vacation Bible School. While it's called "school," it really can be about being young and having fun.

The VBS at Aldersgate United Methodist Church in Wichita goes beyond hanging out with friends and playing. Each year the church sees more and more children. This year, more than 300 turned out.

Over the course of a week, children learn songs, put on skits and do some amazing crafts. They're helped by volunteers such as Melissa Spieckermann.

"I think it's a great time for the kids to get together," she said. "They get to play a lot of games and they learn a lot of things. And I think as a volunteer, I get just as much out of it as the kids."

Along with all the fun, VBS teaches children important lessons. The event is free and open to any child. Our Wins for Kansas partner DeVaughn James Injury Lawyers presented the program with a $500 grant.
