Police have arrested a 22-year-old suspect in connection to the shooting death of a Wichita man last month.

Police and jail records show Keandre Deshawn Summers was arrested Tuesday for first-degree murder and criminal discharge of a firearm at an occupied vehicle. Summers was held without bond Wednesday morning.

Officer Charley Davidson confirmed that Summers turned himself in and was booked into jail for the death of 25-year-old Erick Vasquez on June 17. The shooting happened in a strip mall parking lot near 13th and Bluff.

Police said Vasquez was sitting in a vehicle when two groups on opposite ends of the parking lot started shooting at each other.

Previous story from June 17:

Wichita police said a man shot to death Saturday was not the intended victim. Investigators released new details this morning.

Police said a 25-year-old man suffered multiple gunshot wounds in a strip mall parking lot near 13th and Bluff. Investigators said the man and a friend had gone to the area to purchase cigarettes. The man was sitting in a vehicle when two groups of men started shooting at each other.   Some of the bullets hit the man sitting in the vehicle. His name has not been released.

At the scene of the shooting, friends and family left flowers and candles to honor the victim.

"He's a good friend, a good father, always supported his family," one friend told KAKE News. "I'd known him my whole life. You don't just count the years, you count the blessings."

Investigators said the shooting was gang-related, but that the victim was not in a gang himself.

"He was just sitting in his truck, when two groups of unknown black males, one at the east end of the parking lot, one at the west end of the parking lot, pulled firearms and began firing at each other," said Lt. Todd Ojile with the Wichita Police Dept. "He was not the intended victim, he was just caught in the crossfire."

Police ask anyone with information to call homicide investigators at (316) 268-4181 or Crime Stoppers at (316) 267-2111.
