Wise leads heading into weekend at Air Capital Classic

WICHITA, Kan. (KAKE) -

Aaron Wise's hot play continued on Friday as he carded his second straight 62. The former NCAA individual champion is now 16-under through 36 holes giving him a six stroke lead into the weekend. This ties an Air Capital Classic record for lowest score through two rounds.

"I'm playing great," the former Oregon Duck said. "I'm sure there's a lot of people that think they've played well and they're going to be a decent ways behind me, but like I said there's still so much golf to be played you never know if it's going to continue or not."

Curtis Thompson had the lowest round, surging from 52nd after Round 1 to tied for second with a 9-under-61. This ties a course record for lowest score.

"You know we're all out here to win. Nobody's out here to get second, nobody's out here to get anything less than first so I'm gonna go out there and I'm gonna keep playing aggressive and if it bites me, it bites me. It's just how I play and that's what I'm gonna keep doing," the former LSU Tiger, who is tied with K.H. Lee at 10-under, said.

This time last year Andrew Landry finished top 15 in the U.S. Open. Now he's in contention here at the Air Capital Classic shooting a 65 today to finish tied for 4th at 9-under. He says the rain on Thursday night helped his game in Round 2.

"The wind was up this morning as well as it was yesterday afternoon, it just played a little bit firmer and dryer yesterday. The greens are super receptive right now and we're able to hold four irons and stuff in where as of yesterday it wasn't as easy to do that. It just softened the golf course up and made it more scoreable," Landry said.

Former Kansas Jayhawk Chris Thompson also remains in contention heading into the weekend. He shot a 2-under-68 and sits in the top 10.

The cut-line is at two under, meaning Sterling, Kan. native Michael Gellerman did not make the cut finishing even par.
