Police have arrested a 21-year-old man in connection to a deadly shooting in south Wichita.

The shooting happened at around 1:50 a.m. Thursday at a duplex in the 1600 block of South Emporia, near Harry. Lt. Jason Stephens said a group of people were celebrating a birthday at duplex when 18-year-old Joseph Seabolt was shot in the abdomen.

"There were several people involved in this incident, involving people that lived in both duplexes that apparently knew each other."

Seabolt was taken by private vehicle to Wesley Medical Center where he later died.

Manuel Trotter was arrested and booked for second-degree murder, aggravated assault, criminal discharge of a firearm into an occupied dwelling and domestic violence battery.

Lt. Stephens said Seabolt and Trotter had been involved in a "sequence of disturbances" along with another person who was at the gathering.

Thursday's deadly shooting is Wichita's 17th homicide of 2017.
