The Shocker baseball team was able to take down Southern Illinois 3-1 in extra innings in their opening game of the Missouri Valley Conference Tournament.

WSU scored two runs in the top of the 10th. 

Starter Zach Lewis pitched another gem only allowing two hits while striking out eight batters and only giving up one run in 6.2 innings of work.

Willie Schwanke went 4-for-5 with an RBI, a home run and a triple.

The Shockers are back in action on Thurs. at 7:30 p.m. against last-place Illinois State. The Redbirds surprised top seed and homestanding Missouri State 1-0 in a late-night game. The Bears were held to only three hits.
