Austrian man finds World War II flour sack from Newton in basement

NEWTON, Kan. (KAKE) -

A man from Austria is thanking the people of Newton, Kansas who helped keep his family alive during World War II. 

He contacted the Newton Police Department after finding a flour sack from Newton in his basement. The department posted a photo of the flower sack on its Facebook page with the following caption. 

"A gentleman from Austria found this flour sack in his basement. He contacted us today and wanted our help in thanking the people of Newton, KS who helped provide for his family during WWII."
