Wichita police arrest two after overnight chase

WICHITA, Kan. (KAKE) -

A would be traffic stop in south Wichita ended with two people headed to jail after a police chase spanning more than two miles Thursday morning.

It began about 4:25 a.m. just north of Harry and Hydraulic.

When the officer tried to pull over a gray Chevy Suburban for a traffic violation, the driver sped up and refused to stop. The officer chased the fleeing SUV for about five minutes before the driver eventually stopped and ditched the SUV on S. Roosevelt just south of Kellogg.

The driver tried to make a break for it on foot but was quickly taken down by police. The 38-year-old man was arrested and booked into jail on weapons, drugs, evade and elude and traffic charges. A 36-year-old woman who was riding in the SUV was also taken into police custody inside of the vehicle without incident. She was booked on drug charges.

No one was hurt.
